Since 1997, over 500 Pi Kappa Phi men have participated in Gear Up Florida with Ability Experience. Gear Up Florida was created with one mission in mind: to reach out to as many people as possible across the state of Florida, spreading a message of acceptance and understanding on behalf of people with disabilities.
Considering the current impacts presented by the outbreak of COVID-19, Gear Up Florida has transitioned into a virtual event. Participants will team up on virtual rides to take on the 850 miles the team would have cycled from Miami to Tallahassee. Taking place May 15-30, participants will have the opportunity to join in on virtual group rides and friendship visits, allowing for friendly competition and community connection. Challenge Enterprises and Club Challenge have accepted invitations to a virtual bingo game, a virtual ride, and an online gaming competition.
While the ride isn’t taking its usual form, the mission is still more important than ever. Simply put, Gear Up Florida is a virtual ride with a purpose…. to forge a new path forward to change the way people view disability, one relationship at a time.
