Fun in the Sun-North Florida Style

Fun in the Sun-North Florida Style

If you have read the previous summertime blog it was based on indoor activities for all abilities. Now we will be discussing some fun outdoor-based activities that are always great to attend in the Florida sun.

One of the gems of the North Florida region would be the Jacksonville Zoo. This zoo is filled with several exhibits with amazing animals and reptiles that each zookeeper or volunteer is happy to share information with the guest about. There are a few exhibits in which guests can pay to feed the animals like the giraffe exhibit.  This is a perfect photo opportunity for you and your party.  Just for the summer, they are holding the IllumiZoo, a nighttime activity held every Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There are amazing light displays throughout the zoo with music and a special program that allows you to see different performers along the water and get to experience the zoo from a different aspect.

If you are looking for something near the St. Johns County area, the Alligator Farm Zoological Park is an excellent experience that allows you to explore some animals that are native to Florida and learn about the legendary 15-foot 3-inch, 1,250-pound Maximo. This zoological park allows exclusive experiences such as watching the feeding of the alligators and personal one-on-one experiences with animals including a sloth (upgraded purchase) that will create lifetime memories.

More areas that would be great to explore would be the state parks and beaches of our North Florida region. This includes but is not limited to Anastasia, Little Talbot, Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, and St Augustine Pier. There are entry fees for Anastasia, Little Talbot, and Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, which all go towards the park and protect it. Throughout all these locations there are beaches on site along with trails that are great for walking, running, and even bike riding. Little Talbot is a local favorite due to its protected driftwood that can be found all over the beach, along with unique shells and even sharks’ teeth. At St Augustine Pier, various events can be found such as the Market by the Pier and Music by the Sea. The Market by the Pier event is a small farmers’ market put on every Wednesday from 8 am till 12:30 pm where guests can enjoy food from local vendors and look at arts and crafts. Meanwhile, the Music by the Sea is a small concert event that is also every Wednesday but from 6 pm till 9 pm for locals to enjoy food and music with a gorgeous view.

If you are over in the Clay County area, Green Cove Springs puts on several events. There is the food truck Friday event which happens on the second Friday of each month, where several food trucks come in to serve while live music plays. Along with this event, there is a public pool that is run by fresh spring water with a small water play area that is family-friendly and well maintained.

Hopefully, after reading this blog your friends, family and you can find a nice activity to enjoy some fun in the sun!
